Born in Paris 5th of May 1973.
Bertil started his school education in
Austria (in German), and then
continued at the European School (French section) in Karlsruhe 1980.
After his exam (baccalaureat) 1998 he first started studies at the
Technical University of Karlsruhe.
After a short time he found out that this
was not what interested him, and he went to Sweden to study forestry at
Skogshögskolan, first in Garpenberg, and then in Umeå. To finish of his studies he went to Norway,
where he studied one year at Fosen, close to Trondheim. He got his exam
as
"Jägmästare", but during the studies he came in contact with
sailing ships, and soon he got a job onboard "the sailing school" Gunilla, where he worked for two
years.
At Fosen Bertil also
met Malin Nykänen, and they started to live together, and on the
12th of October 2002 their daughter Saga was born. At the time the
small family was living in Järna, south of Stockholm, but
thereafter they moved into the small house Bertil bought further north,
in Bollstabruk. The winter was hard, and they returned to the
south, and finally came to Orust, on the Swedish west coast.
Bertil then also
worked on another sailing ship - the S/S
Götheborg -
which is a recontruction of an old ship sailing for the Swedish East
Indian company in the 16th centuary.
Presently he is back on Gunilla, where he can be reached via email wl1@ship.gunilla.nu
